Baby Vaughn is Growing!

My fear is already being realized, and that fear is that my blog will be put on the back burner with the arrival of Vaughn. I really just have not taken the time to keep the updates coming. Though, not for a lack of material.

Anyway, this little guy is an absolute doll! He is super sweet and overall he is doing fantastic! We are having some reflux issues that we are tending to, in hopes of making him more comfortable after feedings. We will have to wait another week or so to see results. He is on Prevacid and I will be modifying my diet to eliminate dairy. It all started with him grunting a lot and seeming to be very uncomfortable after feedings, he also has begun spitting up more and more and he is pretty gassy, which is where my diet may be coming into play. It seems to be worse at night, which makes sleeping difficult and in turn makes for one sleepy Mama! Yikes, sleep deprivation is not my friend. Basically I become an emotional mess, poor everyone around me! He has started to have an evening fussy period which I distinctly remember with the girls. The biggest challenge I face is internally, the guilt I feel if I spend time during the day napping and not playing with the girls. I realize it is a short lived situation, but it continues to weigh heavily on my mind, especially at 3AM when I am delirious!

Ok...enough about me, let's talk more about this cutie pie! He had his 2 week appointment on July 7th. His birth weight was 6lbs 9oz, he dropped to 5lbs 15oz in the hospital and was discharged at 6lbs 1oz. Two days after we came home he weighed 6lb 2.5oz, which was positive. Dr. Patti gave us a clean bill of health and was happy to see the weight gain. At his two week appointment he weighed 7lbs 3oz (10-25th percentile) and 20.5 inches long (50th percentile) WOW!!! I was thrilled to hear that he gained so much weight because this whole nursing thing makes it tough to know if he is getting enough to eat. I figured things were going well with the amount of poop and pee he was outputting, but I didn't expect this, yeah us!

Vaughn's first picture
First bath, doesn't seem to be much of a fan
So tiny in his care seat for the fist time as we left the hospital
His cord finally came off after about 10 days, that was new to me
His little frog outfit, that barely fits him now!
My blue pedicure I had just before Vaughn was born to celebrate our new little boy
Such a concerned look, the crinkled forehead cracks me up
I took this video when he and I were just hanging out watching TV, he was so cute I ended up watching him more than the TV. Love him!

Gosh am I behind on updates on him. I took him into the doctor again on 7/11 because he started spitting up a ton over the weekend and was up more at night acting uncomfortable. As it turns out we made a few changes, including feeding him upright, which has totally worked. He is spitting up far less, amazing what a little modification can do! A big thanks to Dr. Schwake, not our normal Ped, but I am considering switching after my experience with him! Vaughn now weighs in at a whopping 7lbs 9oz, yes he gained 5 ounces in 4 days! I can not wait to have a little chunky monkey!

I feel like everything is so new and different from what we experienced with the girls. With them it the hospital for so long and then always having to adjust their developmental milestones for their prematurity, I never really knew exactly what to expect from them. That really hasn't changed a lot but only because I am not reading like I read when the girls were born. I have little free time to be reading at this point to know what an almost 3 week old does, but I am pretty sure this is quite good. Nice strength buddy!
