9 Month Check Up

Doctor's report was awesome!!! These little girls are doing amazingly well! It is always great to hear from a medical professional just how well. The girls are all on the 9 month length, weight and head circumference charts, which is great news because they are growing very well! Sydney now weighs 16lbs 9 oz, Taylor is 16lbs 3oz and Brooke is still the peanut at 15lbs 9oz. They are also doing very well with their motor development, they are just shy of where a "term" 9 month old should be. According to their adjusted age they should be functioning at a 7ish month old level. So, this is a great accomplishment for them. They are truly miracle babies. Being born at 29 weeks, it is incredible they are all functioning this well already. Sydney will probably never be a roller or a crawler, she will go straight to walking, no concern there, many kids go that route. Brooke and Taylor have a little eczema, so we got a prescription that should take care if it pretty quickly. They both have really sensitive skin and I foresee some allergies :( They all had their iron levels checked, all three had been on an iron supplement since they were born, and all they were within normal levels, yeah!!! They got the cutest little camouflage band-aids.

Brooke is officially able to feed herself! AWESOME!!! She is using her pointer finger and thumb to get the cheerios in her mouth, it is so cute. The puffs we give them get really sticky when they get wet from the girls hands or from the drool, so many times I will find puffs in strange places, tucked in clothes, tucked in closed fists, cribs, and in this picture stuck to Brooke's head, of course! It is awesome because for so long we have been looking forward to the girls being able to do a few things for themselves, especially eating! They can all hold their own bottles, sometimes they prefer that we do, but they can and they often do, so that is a HUGE step in the right direction! I love to watch the progression of them learning things, they try, try, try for days and then boom, one day it just clicks.

Taylor is such a little sweetie!!! She is doing so much better going to bed at night. The doctor said she may be having a little separation anxiety and just wants to be with us. That breaks my heart to think about, but the doctor reiterated what we thought and that is to not let her little tests get the best of us because we will ultimately be creating a bigger problem. Taylor is so full of smiles, even when she cries, if we look at her and talk to her she usually starts smiling. She is the one lately who is sleeping the best in the morning and taking great naps! I swear the other day when I picked her up and hugged her she put her arms around me and hugged me back, I loved that!!!!

We are working still working with them all on learning to drink from the sippy cup. The doctor would like to see them off the bottle around 12 months. Brooke seems to be getting it the best so far. Taylor and Sydney get it but usually let the liquid dribble out of their mouth instead of swallowing it, which you can imagine makes quite a mess. (Good news...I am starting to get used to the mess thing, I know I need to let it go...)

Sydney is suddenly babbling like crazy, long strings of chatting. All of the girls babble and have been for some time, but all of a sudden on Thursday Sydney's "talk" sounded different, it is like she is getting closer to making a word like mama, dada, not quite that but I think soon! The doctor also thought she has a tooth on top starting to come in, WOW, at this rate she will have a mouth full of teeth in no time :) Syd pretty much sits with little or no effort. She sustains the position for long periods of time, it is adorable to see her look so mature all upright! She also like to look around to make sure everyone sees how great she is doing, I think she is proud!

You can really see her teeth in this picture!
